Introduction

This site is dedicated to my experience as a foster care provider for a previously stray pregnant cat. She had her babies on September ninth and the babies are doing just fine. Most are already promised for adoption. You can check the status of the kittens here.

I’m happy to say that none of the 7 have lost weight, and all but one have gained. Though small amounts, they’re tiny anyway.

Black and white up 5 grams
White kitty 1 up 9 grams
White kitty 2 up 8 grams
White kitty 3 same THis is the one that almost died but was the heaviest of all anyway
White Kitty 4 up 3 grams.
    Tabby 1 up 7 grams
    Tabby 2 up 9 grams

It’s the second day of the kittens lives now. I think I should name them. Whoever adopts them will likely rename them but for now I think I should give them something to go by. Even though they won’t care, OR listen.

Today I’m going to take some pictures of mom too. She’s so awfully skinny. She had to be close to starving when I got her. I’ve got her up to 4 cans of Authority food per day which is a lot. But she’s got two issues.

    1. Have enough nutrients to generate the milk for 7 kittens.
    3. Regain her strength and get back to normal. Read the rest of this entry »

She simply won’t get out of the box to eat. So I’ve brought her every meal since the birth. 5 times yesterday. I know she needs to regain strength so I certainly don’t mind, I’m just concerned she’s staying in there too much. She left the box twice yesterday. Both times to drop stink bombs :)

    At your service mam!

And since they’re asleep I stole two pics that are a little more clear

All 7 kittens are doing great! The little white one that was born last was all but dead when she came out. I almost gave up on her. Mom ignored her, so I had to break open the sack and cut the umbilical cord to get her going. Then she’d just lay there. NO movement. the only way I could tell she was alive was about every 30 seconds she’d gasp a huge breath of air and mew a little on the way out.

I took hold of her and put her between my hands, breathing warm air over her to keep her toasty. After about 30 minutes of that I put her back in the kitty pile in the middle so one cat was over her to keep her warm. About an hour later I came in to retrieve the dead kitten and to my surprise she had latched on and was going strong! beating the other kittens back as they tried to get food. I was so happy! So I think I’m going to name this one lucky:

Mom stayed with the crew all day. THe first time she got out of the box was about an hour ago. She ate 4 cans of Authority Kitten food and has started regaining her strength. Here’s the babies first pic without mom. I had to photoshop (badly) some out of this because there was blood since mom gave the last two in the box.

And Tinker wanted me to remind everyone she still exists and isn’t too happy about the lack of attention she’s gotten today. Initial calls to Wilbur’s agent were not returned.
