Introduction

This site is dedicated to my experience as a foster care provider for a previously stray pregnant cat. She had her babies on September ninth and the babies are doing just fine. Most are already promised for adoption. You can check the status of the kittens here.

    Since I don’t have fosters anymore, I think it’s time to switch things to my cats since 1. there is some pretty interesting stuff happening, and 2. there’s no sense letting the site just sit here until I get more fosters.

    If you didn’t already know, I was forced to give up my cats to a rescue group when I moved. I was broken hearted about it. After about a week I learned that they weren’t too happy either. neither were eating, and wilbur was petrified. he would hide in the back of a crate all day, every day.

    It was then that I decided i needed to get them back, and the foster care giver agreed because they just weren’t doing well.

    Someone from the group offered to drive them 1100 miles towards me. I had to drive the other 400 (each way) but at that point i didn’t care, I was so happy to get them back. I knew when i let them go it would hurt, but it was overwhelming. those cats are my family and i had lost them.

    After a month of being lonely and sad I opened the door to the van the driver had, and tinker immediately started mewing. LOUD and constantly. Wilbur was asleep but he wasn’t happy until he saw me :).

    for safety I decided to put them in the bathroom for the night I stayed at a hotel before driving back. they were having none of that. They convinced me to open the door and let them run free. I was so afraid they’d be timid and scared like the foster care giver had explained. Well that was NOT a problem. they smothered me with loving rubs and head butts all night. neither of my cats are affectionate. But now? that’s all changed. We laid in the bed from 9pm to 6am. I scratched their necks and petted them, and they purred loud, and kept jumping on me. It was such a great feeling.

    On the way home, I had them in carriers. I gave them both a sedative an hour before leaving (Acepromazine) and they plopped right into the carriers. No fuss, no muss.

    About 50 miles in Tinker decided she was done with the carriers and needed some snuggles. She started jamming her front legs through the holes scratching anything she could reach. She also started biting the door cage hard. I put her in the front seat with the carrier facing meĀ  to calm her down. Yeah right. not happening. She just started scratching me :). I pulled over and thought I’d test her. I opened the carrier door, and she popped right out. looked around at all the windows, and popped into my lap and started rubbing and purring. So to test further I started driving, slowly. She jumped into the back windshield and stared at the other cars. then she came to me, sat in my lap and watched everything out the window. No fear whatsoever. So i drove the other 6 hours with her in the front passenger seat mostly, when she wanted to sleep she’d squish herself under the passenger seat, and when she wanted to crap she promptly jumped into the back driver side floor and went…. a LOT. it was awesome!

    So we’re all home, and everyone is happy.

    Oh did I mention that the spaying I paid for apparently never got done? Tinker is pregnant with her brother’s kittens. VERY pregnant. Thankfully he’s been de-nutted now so he can’t do it again. But Tinker being pregnant is the basis for me starting posting again.

    Brief Update

    Filed under: The Fosters;

    Wanted to follow up a little for the few people that might still be seing this site.

    first off it went from bad to worse. I ended up having to move, quickly, and had to put Tinker and Wilbur in foster care. They have not adapted well and they are miserable. Thankfully on Dec 26th I’m driving 350 miles to pick them up and I CANNOT WAIT.

    Meanwhile, the nicest people on the planet were kind enough to send me a couple pics of the fosters I miss so much.

    Here you go! Thanks Ashely and Anthony!
