Massive bedroom project

Filed under: The Fosters;

I couldn’t take it anymore. My bedroom had turned into some sort of mayhem fueled, turd scattered minefield. Cats everywhere, dry food scattered all over. Wet food (pouches) splattered on the carpet and just a mess of ’stuff’. So I cleaned the whole room today. Said the heck with it.

The upside? i found a use for those FedEx boxes I no longer needed.

The bed’s messy because even after making it the kittens immediately scrambled forces, met on top and planned their revenge on me for cleaning up their landmines and paper shreddings

By the way, one thing you’ll notice. There are NO pictures or any artwork on any wall in my home. I like bare walls.

Next, we see the tactfully and artfully placed litter box and food dishes. ( i left the landmines in the litter box hoping they’ll think “Hey, that must be where we’re suppose to put them”)

And finally, an unexpected surprise! Notice the kittens remind me directly after cleaning the room that I cannot deter them from ‘dookin’ where they see fit.

UPDATE at 11:22pm PST:

Oh nice. Murphy and his law stepped in for a visit. After doing all this cleaning, the little black kitten (Jackie) was turtle heading (you know what that is right?) and he smeared poop all over 3 of the white kittens. One really badly behind the head. He also left poop spots in numerous places on the carpet in the closet, and was kind enough to do the same on one of my pillows. See, the bed is pretty high and although the kittens have no quams with leaping off It still bugs me when they ‘thump’. So i put a pillow down where they usually land. Since I was cleaning today i decided to put fresh linens on the bed…….. Now one of the pillows has at least 7 poop blots on it.

Oh and he still had dingleberries when he climbed up my t-shirt to sit on my shoulder. How I avoided my own little treasure is beyond me.

Suffice to say that 4 kittens now need a bath, and his fur is nicely fused into a nasty little turd clump

1. Hate to say it BUT you’re going to have to quarantine them until they learn to use the LB. I suggest that you put back the railing, double height (if you can) and with the bent part on top and inwards (the reverse of what you originally did). Madonna has to stay in too so that she can teach them the do’s and don’ts. Meanwhile, if you’re bathing the babies, very very warm water and use baby shampoo - johnsons or something similar. Dry immediately!

Drop me a line if you need help!

2. Welcome to the joys of kittenhood! :)
What about kitten attract litter? I’m wondering if that would help - along with Mama’s tutelage?

3. The best way to train kittens to use the litter tray is to plonk them in it and then get hold of their front paws and drag their arms through the litter.

Cats naturally try to cover their mess after they have made it so doing this shows them that they can do this in the tray.

Takes quite a bit of teaching and with 7 of them you are going to have a lot of training to do but they will get it in the end.

Best wishes,

Mark

I may just have to do that. I did make some changes today so let’s see how it goes.

yeah I’ve done all that. I just don’t think they listen.

I think the problems are this.

1. I used pine pellets instead of regular litter because I couldn’t find non-clumping litter. So it looks a lot different than mom’s litter box.

2. I didn’t put the litter box next to mom’s. Originally I had them locked in the closet and mom’s box out side that on the far wall.

3. They can’t even see into mom’s box. it’s tall.

So I removed the pellets, put Fresh Step in which is what I use on mom’s and put the litterbox right next to hers.

I’ll see how it goes from here. I scrubbed the dookie marks off the carpet and used lysine afterwards, so I should be ok there.

Man this blog is great. I have a problem and get three great bits of advice..

5. If I were you I would pack up that beautiful bedspread so it’s not completly shredded by all those cute little claws. Not to mention the dookie marks!

Have the Fosters met Tinker and Wilber yet? That should be a fun day!

Keep up the good work.

6. @ Dad:

You’re welcome - I’m no kitten expert, but the finer grained litter may help them with their teensy paws. The Kitten Attract is $$, but works.. and has smaller pellets in it. You don’t have to use it for weeks on end, but it will help to entice them to the LB and use it.

And with seven of them, Mama has her hands(paws) full.. and so do you!!

To be honest they’re OK on the bed spread now. They don’t crawl up there when I’m not in the room. Then again this creates a new problem.

When the bed spread is there, they can’t climb up. It’s like a barrier because it hangs over the bed skirt they’re climbing up. Does that make sense? So now what they do is crawl up UNDER the bed spread on top of the blanket. I guess they don’t like pooping when they’re under covers, so as long as the bed’s made, i’m safe :) I need to hide the other pillows though and I don’t use the pillow shams. I just put the only things on the bed I need. I’ve got 6 other pillows that came with that set, but I only use one. I have to put my arm around something when I sleep. Sounds stupid I know. I just broke up with my girlfriend so I’m left to hugging the pillow. Which at this point seems like a better companion.
