    Pointed kitten and mom

    Filed under: The Fosters;

Like a dummy I thought I had this zoomed in more. I was using a tripod hoping to get a good closeup of one of the pointed kittens. He’s going to have dark ears that’s for sure.

I also don’t think he’s going to be white at all. His nose is dark, his ears are now dark and his tail is striped like a tabby.

  1. I just went through and read the whole kitten/foster blog. What a great job you are doing!!!! I love that you are journaling everything. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Thanks for the comment Mariangela!

I’ve been surprised that people are leaving comments already. The blog’s only been online since the second. So a couple weeks.

It’s nice because I can go back and remember each day by just reading my posts.

Hopefully it might spark someone else to do foster care too, which is the big hope here. It’s so rewarding. People just don’t realize how much so.

  3. I keep telling you JT, don’t color your cats until they’re done! The colors will change again. Looks like Madonna had maybe two mates - a possible pointed and another tabby. Both cats must carry the pointed gene to create pointed kittens - it’s a recessive gene.

BTW and this is seriously IMO, I don’t think you have pointed kittens. Look up Tonkinese and you’ll know what I mean!

Which reminds me…have you sexed them yet?

  4. yeah actually I know what Tonks are and that’s kind of what I was thinking too. The strange part is, the striped tail. Tonks don’t have that right? it’s usually a solid color.

Your answer is what I was fishing for though :) since your last post said you had your ideas.

I can also easily see two fathers. That would also explain why 7 cats, 4 of which are completely different. The white ones are also noticeably bigger than the others.

I haven’t tracked the sexes, but I do know that of the white ones there are both males and females. Is that something I need to watch? like a health issue?

The larges of all the kittens ironically is the one I had to save and thought was clearly dead. He’s much bigger than his brothers and sisters. The cute little black one is the runt.

  5. By the way, I did get this picture too. but it doesn’t show much. well, considering you’re saying it’s not conclusive at this age anyway.

  6. I usually color my cats at birth, 3 weeks and 8 weeks. If I’m not sure at 8 weeks, it means I will never be sure…LOL. I sex the cats the same way. Nothing worrying about the sexes and since you’ve stopped weighing you wont be able to get my drift as to the sex/size/weight differential…all very interesting, for a breeder that is :)

Some original “Tonks” (like mine), in other words cats that are domestic but look seriously pedigree (yes, my domestics have fooled many a CFA judge and don’t ask me how my black DSH gave birth to a Tonk lookalike, I have no idea) have some tabby markings.

We’ll just have to wait and see…tabby markings do fade in time. Pity that not even one remained completely white though!

  7. Ahh ok. Well for one thing these items are clearly much more important in your line of raising cats. you’re a champion (are you a champion breeder too?) and your show cats win all sorts of stuff. So clearly it’s critical to you. So i understand your points well.

I haven’t stopped weighing them FYI, just not reporting it anymore since it’s not really relevant unless there’s a big drop. I am making sure they’re gaining and watching closely.

I wish at least one had stayed white too. I love pure white cats.

  8. I’m a champion? Don’t know about that! As for being a Champion breeder - well I do try!

You’ll still see anywhere from 0 gram weight gain to about 20g per day. Once they stop doing the breaststroke and start walking (my cats never walked, the ran) you may see either no gain or even weight loss because of the amount of activity.

    You’re doing great!

  9. I’ve seen all your trophies, remember? In your webpage? :)

The breast stroke. that’s hillarious. I’d never thought about it but that’s exactly what it looks like. hah. oh man that’s funny.

Some of them are starting to sort of crawl. Not very good at it yet but i can see the changes coming.
