First day in the new world
Filed under: The Fosters; All 7 kittens are doing great! The little white one that was born last was all but dead when she came out. I almost gave up on her. Mom ignored her, so I had to break open the sack and cut the umbilical cord to get her going. Then she’d just lay there. NO movement. the only way I could tell she was alive was about every 30 seconds she’d gasp a huge breath of air and mew a little on the way out.
I took hold of her and put her between my hands, breathing warm air over her to keep her toasty. After about 30 minutes of that I put her back in the kitty pile in the middle so one cat was over her to keep her warm. About an hour later I came in to retrieve the dead kitten and to my surprise she had latched on and was going strong! beating the other kittens back as they tried to get food. I was so happy! So I think I’m going to name this one lucky:
Mom stayed with the crew all day. THe first time she got out of the box was about an hour ago. She ate 4 cans of Authority Kitten food and has started regaining her strength. Here’s the babies first pic without mom. I had to photoshop (badly) some out of this because there was blood since mom gave the last two in the box.
And Tinker wanted me to remind everyone she still exists and isn’t too happy about the lack of attention she’s gotten today. Initial calls to Wilbur’s agent were not returned.

John, good for you! I, too, am a foster mom. Mandy brought me a pregnant cat she’d found on the “E” list at the pound 6 days ago. ‘Muggles’ is pure white and about the size of a Siamese. I, too, fostered 6 months ago. Of the 8 kittens (three moms) I kept a male who is an Ocicat. Chaos is 7 months old. I have also 2 adult females that I rescued. Fortunately, I live alone (since 1984) and have dedicated rooms for the fosters. Like you, I want to let Muggles out to become familiar with my place. Chaos has snuck in past me to greet her several times. Although I quickly removed him, there were no issues between them. Feel free to e-mail me and we’ll ‘kitten chatter’.

Ah that’s such a touching story. Lucky is very lucky to have someone like you looking after her. Aww I just want to hold them all they are so gorgeous!

Thanks Mark!
I feel really good about it. The kitten has come along nicely too. I just hope there’s no brain damage or other issues from being ‘chilled’ as they call it.
I don’t hold them either actually. I want them to be perfect so the only time I remove or hold them is to weigh them once a day. I can’t wait until they’re big enough to move around and play with though.
Eyes opening should be coming in the next few days!
